i5/OS and AIX connections

Educational institutions may test the connection to the systems here based upon their need for resources in the teaching environment. Please be advised that these connections have limited authority and are monitored to ensure the activity does not violate acceptable testing.

Connection using Host on Demand:

Log on to Host On Demand using the user id and password of "systest" "systest". The server will .submit two security documents for your approval and may take a moment the first time you connect.to this service. To proceed in the login sequence please answer yes to these. You may select the button to always trust in order not to see these the next time you connect to the system.

Host On Demand uses ports 23 and 8999. If you have a firewall these may present and issue when connecting. If so, please contact you administrative IT department if on your school's LAN for assistance. If you are connecting from home please check your system security to allow these ports through your firewall.

Connection to i5/OS

There are two access methods available for you to test. The first is Host on Demand which will allow you to establish a 5250 green screen connection via web hosted sessions. The second method demonstrates connection via Access for Web and creates a GUI Web interface for many of the File Utility, Database, and 5250 operations.

When you Logon to Host on Demand using the user ID of "systest" you will be presented with two icons. double click on the i5/OS icon to start a 5250 session. Once you have a sign on screen use the same user ID and password to logon to the system.

You may also test the Access for Web connection to the system. Using the link Access For Web and the same user ID you can connect using this product.

Please note that System i Access for Web is running on port 10076. You may need to adjust your Firewall for access.

Connection to AIX

If you are wanting to test the connection to the remote AIX partition you can use the following procedure to do so.

Similar to the i5/OS connection you may use Host on Demand to facilitate the session. When you logon to Host on Demand simply select the AIX connection icon to begin.

The user Id used for Host on Demand is the same user ID ( systest ) and password you will enter for the AIX terminal logon.

Please remember that the profile has very limited authority in the system and is used primarily used to get a feel for the remote system response. Please limit your time on the system when using this profile. If you require more extensive testing of the AIX environment please contact the IBM Academic Initiative Team.
